Adele M. Barnes Adele M. Barnes died on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at her home in Levittown. She was 88. Born in Bellmawr, NJ, and raised in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia, Mrs. Barnes has been a resident of Levittown since 1953. She worked as a nurse during World War II and was later employed with Sears and Roebuck Company on the Boulevard in Philadelphia. She then went to work for Educational Testing Service in Princeton from where she retired after 30 years. Mrs. Barnes was an avid bowler and traveled to over 25 national tournaments across the United States. She was a member of the Lower Bucks County Women's Bowling Association for more than 50 years and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1994. She also received the Achievement and Dedication award in 1994. She also was a huge fan of the Pennsbury High School Boys & Girls Bowling teams, affectionately known as "Mom Barnes". She also enjoyed following her sons baseball teams from little league through the professional ranks. Beloved wife of the late Samuel V. Barnes, Mrs. Barnes is survived by her sons; Samuel J. Barnes (Sue) of Grinnell, Iowa and Michael C. Barnes (Mary) of Levittown. She will also be sadly missed by her two grandchildren, David J. Barnes (April) of Berea, KY and and Tami Smith (Dustin) of Grinnell, IA; great grandchildren Morgan Adelle and Abbie Barnes and Rylie Smith; her brother Charles Bates of Avalon, NJ and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10:00 am at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, Levittown, followed by Rite of Committal in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
