RC 'Bob' Vaughan, aged 85, of Levelland, Texas was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 8, 2015 while under the care of Hospice and both the Levelland Nursing and the Beehive Assisted Living Homes. A long time resident of Levelland, he was born in Lueders, Texas on August 4, 1930. He spent his early years in Jones County, Texas. Bob graduated from Lueders High School and later attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. He married the love of his life Eva A. Barnes on September 11, 1948 in Levelland.
Bob owned and operated RC Vaughan Oil Company, a Gulf/Chevron Distributorship for more than 30 years. Bob was first and foremost a Christian. He served his Lord as an active charter member of both Morning Side Baptist and Second Baptist Church in Levelland, where he served as a deacon in both congregations and participated in the Men's Brotherhood. During the 1960's, Bob served his community by being a three term City of Levelland Councilman and later a two term Mayor. He enjoyed becoming a pilot of his own aircraft. He enjoyed playing golf and upon retirement spent many hours fishing on various lakes throughout the state of Texas.
Bob was preceded death by his wife of 61 years, Eva; his beloved parents, Norman Carroll and Beulah Reynolds Vaughan, his older brother, William Vaughan, his younger sister, Linda McGough, a daughter-in-law, Tammy Skipworth Vaughan and a son-in-law Charles Brad Frye.
He is survived by his brother Donald R. Vaughan and his wife Sarah of Lubbock; one son, Robert Carroll Vaughan Jr. and his wife Sharon of Levelland; daughters Shirley Dennis and her husband Ronald of Abilene and Donna Frye of Kingwood, Texas. He was blessed with eight grandchildren Michael Vaughan, Dusty Dennis, Johnna Bissett, Chris Vaughan, Robert Frye, Tamara Riley, Brock Frye and Tara Dudley, as well as, 15 great-grandchildren Meacheala Bissett, Justin Bissett, Andy Vaughan, Leilani Sanchez, Brody Vaughan, Julian Sanchez, Peylin Dennis, Danica Sanchez, Anistyn Dennis, Merrick Frye, Kendyll Dudley, Bill Riley, Luke Dennis, Major Frye and Layton Dudley and two future great-grandsons due in January 2016, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob's funeral will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 10:00 am in the sanctuary of Second Baptist Church in Levelland with burial in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
The family suggest memorial donations be made to Second Baptist Church in Levelland or to your favorite charity in his memory.
