Funeral services for James Weaver Logan, 78 , of Levelland will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Levelland with Rev. Rusty Dickerson, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday, January 6, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. He died Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Levelland.
Born on September 13, 1935 in Quanah, Texas, he attended Quanah schools and graduated Quanah High School in 1954. He then attended West Texas State College and graduated from North Texas State College in 1960. He married Mary Catherine Plunkett in 1959 in Quanah.
He coached and taught school at Uvalde, Ingleside, Granger, and Vernon, Texas from 1960 to 1972. He was principal of Shive Elementary in Vernon, Texas in 1972 and 1973. The family moved to Klondike, Texas in 1973 where James was principal for one year, and superintendent until 1987. James and Mary Catherine moved to Merkel, Texas in 1987 where he was superintendent and retired after 39 years in the Texas education system in 1999. In 2006, James and Mary Catherine moved to Levelland, Texas.
James was an active member of the Theta Chi Fraternity while at North Texas. He was also active in the Lions Club in Merkel as well as the Rotary Club in both Vernon and Levelland. James was the District Treasurer for the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) in the Abilene and Lubbock Districts.
He is preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife of Levelland, three children and their spouses: John and Cindy of Levelland, Mark and Brenda, of Texico, New Mexico, Catherine Ann and Greg Dewbre of Lubbock. He is also survived by two sisters, one brother in-law, and two sister-in-laws: Margie Prater of Quanah, and Frances Daugherty of East Port, Michigan, Jodell Logan - wife of the late Newt Logan, Nancy Logan – wife of the late Tommy Logan, and Jerry Don Brandon - husband to the late Peggy Brandon. He is also survived by two sister-in-He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Logan and Austin Carson, Taylor, James Don, Colton, Chance, Emily, and Brady Logan, as well as Garrett and Grant Dewbre.
