Funeral services for J R Hartis, 88, of Levelland will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 9, 2013 at George Price Funeral Chapel, Levelland with Jay Kelley, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. He died on Thursday, November 7, 2013 in Levelland.

He was born on March 14, 1925 in Murphy, Collin County, Texas to Vernie Ray and Ella (Swindall) Hartis. He married Evelyn Lewis on August 23, 1946 in Pettit, Texas and she preceded him in death on February 19, 2011. J R worked for G. F. Wacker's Stores for more than 30 years, managing stores in Seminole, Texas, Big Spring, Texas, Hobbs, NM, Grants, NM, Sherman, Texas, Monahan’s, Texas and Levelland, Texas. After a brief retirement, he went to work for The King Company of Austin, Texas and worked with them until his final retirement.

Survivors include his sons: Tommy Gene Hartis and his wife, Donna of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Lewis Dale Hartis and his wife, Shellie of Herriman, Utah, his daughter: Sherri Lynn Hudson of Levelland, Texas; his brothers: Charles Hartis, Bill Hartis and his wife Carol, all of Amarillo, Texas; and Gene Hartis and his wife, Betty of Joplin, Missouri and his sister, Betty Carver and Dean, of Hale Center, Texas; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
