Charles W. (Charlie) Miller, 84 of Lubbock, formerly of Levelland, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2018, with his loving family by his side. Graveside services will be at 2 pm on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the City of Levelland Cemetery. A memorial celebration of life will be held at Neil Chapel at Carillon of Lubbock on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at 2 pm.
Charlie was born June 19, 1933 in Amarillo, and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1955 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He married D. Jean Johnson of Pampa on August 10, 1956 and was blessed with two daughters; Diane (Miller) Button of Katy, Texas and Karen (Miller) Wells of Vacaville, California.
During his 32 year career in the Oil and Gas industry, and later in retirement, Charlie was extremely active within the industry, community, and with his church in Levelland. He served as district manager of Amoco's Levelland and Slaughter fields from 1977-1987.
Charlie was proud of his accomplishments as a vital member of the South Plains College Board of Regents for more than 24 years where he was instrumental in the establishment of the college's Petroleum Technology program. He held leadership roles with the Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association, AIME, American heart Association, Levelland Chamber of Commerce, Levelland First United Methodist Church, and was Scholarship Chairman for the South Plains Chapter of the API.
Charlie was also an avid woodworker and photographer, with his family still enjoying the products of his efforts.
Charlie is preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Harris Miller, and is survived by his wife, Jean Miller, children, Diane and Karen, along with five granddaughters and one great-grandson.
