Wallace Wade Watson, 69, of Lenoir, NC died of natural causes at his home on June 21, 2013. Mr. Watson was born on July 4, 1943 in Caldwell County to the late Clarence Watson and Gladys Cozort Watson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Cpl. Richard Watson, and three sisters, Alene Walker of Myrtle Beach, SC, Arlene Cikanek of Northville, Michigan, and Miladeen Shoemake of Lenoir.
Survivors include his son Travis and wife Denise Watson, of Wake Forest, NC; brothers, Edward and wife Eunice Watson of Lenoir, Barry Watson and wife Patty of Moutain City, TN; sisters, Mary Estes of Lenoir, Betty Canter of Rhodhiss, Reba Watson of Lenoir, and Lena Roland of Granite Falls. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he was always willing to entertain and help find the perfect automobile.
Mr. Watson was a master mechanic, and he had his talents recognized early in his military service. He was originally trained to be a medical nurse in the United States Army spending some time in Germany. He was an expert rifleman and sharp shooter and earned the National Defense Service Medal. During this time, his natural talent for auto mechanics was recognized, and his military duties quickly shifted away from the medical field. Once home in Caldwell County, Mr. Watson gained certifications in auto mechanics from Caldwell Community College and became a leader in Charlotte, NC where he managed many dealerships service departments.
Upon retirement, Mr. Watson returned home to Lenoir where he spent much time hunting and fishing. He made many friends at the car shows in Lenoir. He continued with the love of automobiles working on classic cars for friends. Mr. Watson attended Confidence Advent Christian Church.
Funeral service will be held Monday, June 24, 2013 at 11 A.M. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend Norm Sherwood officiating. Receiving of friends will be from 10 am to 11 am Monday. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge.
