Tracy Pitts DiGiacomo, beloved wife of Gregg DiGiacomo, devoted mother of Luke and Anna, cherished sister of Kimberly Wagner-Witt and Jessica Thorne, and a dear aunt to her nieces and nephews, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, at the age of 61.
Tracy was born to Lewis and Hilda Pitts in Columbia, S.C., on September 30, 1962. She spent her formative years in Atlanta, where she eventually met her husband, Gregg. After living on the West Coast, they settled in Granite Falls, N.C., where they raised their family. She found immense joy on the waters of Lake Hickory and cherished her time basking in the sun at Folly Beach.
Tracy studied at the University of South Carolina, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She dedicated many years of her life as a probation and parole officer for Multnomah County, Oregon, then with the N.C. Department of Public Safety, where her commitment to justice and rehabilitation touched countless lives.
Tracy embodied a spirit of compassion and empathy that endeared her to everyone she encountered. She would never take no for an answer and lived by the motto she imparted to her children, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" — a quote from The Rolling Stones.
Tracy was a self-described badass. She faced life's challenges with courage and an indomitable spirit. Friends and family can find solace in knowing that her bravery and resilience have shown them the way forward.
Tracy is survived by her husband, Gregg DiGiacomo; her children, Luke and Anna; her sister, Kimberly Wagner-Witt; her sister, Jessica Thorne; her nieces, nephews, and their families; her father, Lewis Pitts; and many friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilda Morris.
