Thomas M. Kiser, 75, of Hudson passed away peacefully Monday, March 27, 2023 at Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation. He had been in a period of declining health. Mr. Kiser was born April 23, 1947 to the late Norma Brown Kiser and Jack Suddreth Kiser in Surry County, NC.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Brenda T. Kiser and a step-daughter, Jennifer Butler Cox. Mr. Kiser is survived by a brother, Bob Kiser and wife Vera of Marion, NC, a stepdaughter, Angie Ruppard and husband, Tony of Hudson and four beautiful grandchildren and their families, Taylor Cox and Zach Foisie of Asheville, Hayley, Travis and Ragen Rawls of Lenoir, Sara Beth Ruppard of Lenoir and Anna Lee Ruppard of Raleigh.
Tom loved recounting his growing up years and summers spent with his brother on their Uncle Fonz’s farm in Elkin. 1960’s high school fun at Lenoir High School (Class of 1965) brought him the loyalty of lifelong friends who he still held close in heart. Camping, hiking, and driving his Jeep defined his love of the outdoors. He loved the mountains and the coast equally and was happy for time spent in either. As a family, we are thankful for the 20+ years of vacations at Holden Beach.
Professionally, Tom enjoyed a successful career in the automotive industry as a Service Manager, both for Volkswagen and Toyota and even at his own station in Hudson. He won many awards for outstanding service and built a reputation of honesty and integrity which garnered him a loyal customer base and respect from colleagues.
He and his wife, Brenda, spent their years together traveling, caring for family and neighbors as well as following creative pursuits. They were familiar faces at local craft festivals showcasing Tom’s mastery of woodworking. His great passion was clockmaking. With intricate case work and handpicked movements, Tom’s clocks are works of art that express his attention to detail and love for working with his hands. He was a true craftsman. Tom’s heart was to bring good to the life around him. He was loved and he will be missed.
Come share your memories and stories as the family receives friends and loved ones during a time of visitation Friday, March 31 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Pendry’s Funeral Home, Lenoir, NC.
