Shelley was born on May 23, 1961 in Boone County, Indiana to the late James Fredrick DeBord and Dora Cook Davis.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son; Jonathon DeBord, son-in-law; Joshua Wesley Berry and a sister; Phyliss Wilburn.
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Shelley’s faith and family were her two greatest joys. Her steadfast devotion to God guided her life. Her faith, quiet and unwavering, was an example to her many family and friends. At times unassuming, Shelley was never afraid to voice her faith when needed or listen to those needing patient and loving arms to offer comfort.
After her love for God, Shelley’s family was her number one priority. A dedicated daughter and a caring sister, Shelley always made time for her loved ones. In Robert, her husband of 22 years, Shelley found her soulmate and best friend. A stranger could see it in their eyes – the unconditional love and respect they had for each other.
Shelley’s gentle nature and kind heart, lead to her passion of working with children. Throughout her life, Shelley found fulfillment working with children, professionally as a nanny and caregiver, and personally as an aunt, mother and grandmother. In a room full of people, Shelley would have been found connecting with the children. Listening. Laughing. Playing. Loving.
As she struggled with her health the last few years, Shelley found great joy in adult coloring books. She showed her loved ones she understood their joys and sorrows. Not only will her kindness and empathy be greatly missed by those closest to her, so will frequent phone calls, her Yankee chili and favorite meals prepared by Grandma Shel-Shel, like her fish sticks and macaroni and cheese.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 22 years; Robert McKinnley Miller Sr. of the home, sons; Robert McKinnley Miller Jr. of Lenoir, Ricky Lee Miller and wife Ruby of Lenoir, daughter; Leslie Rosetta Berry of Clemmons, brothers; David DeBord of Somerset, KY, Jim Davis of Lenoir, stepfather; Aubrey Lee Davis of Lenoir, mother-in-law; Charlotte Miller Overby of Lenoir, sisters; Elaine Orth of San Antonio, TX, Quaneita McAtee of Indianapolis IN, eight precious grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.
