She was born on December 31, 1924 in Caldwell County to the late Arvin Leard and Bertha Alice Lail Herman. Mrs. Holman was an active church and community member during her life. She was a founding member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church, a lifelong member of Baton Ruritan, and also a founding member of the North Catawba Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. In her caring nature, Mrs. Holman made the choice to have her remains donated to scientific research.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Haywood L. Holman; brothers, Ralph Herman and Wayne Herman; sisters, Bernice Edwards, Rachel Cannon, and Virginia White.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Patricia Ann McCreary and husband Max of Valdese; grandsons, David McCreary of Lenoir and Bryan McCreary and wife Lorisa of Lenoir; four great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law Stanley Edwards of Granite Falls.
A memorial service honoring Mrs. Holman’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May, 7, 2019 at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Gilliam and Ron Beane officiating. A Receiving of Friends will immediately follow the service until 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the team at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, I-CARE of Hudson, her caregiver Carolyn Thorpe, and the many family and friends who helped Mrs. Holman during her time of need.
