Mr. Roy Theodore Barnwell, 88, of Lenoir entered into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 17, 2022 while surrounded by his family at his residence.
Mr. Barnwell was born on March 30, 1934 in Burke County to the late Theodore and Mary Jo Baker Barnwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Nichols, Jean Barrier and Sue White.
Roy was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He attended church at North Catawba Baptist Church for many years until later becoming a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Roy was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country. Roy accepted a job with First Union National Bank of Lenoir and later established the Hudson branch which is currently First Citizens Bank, from which he retired. Roy and his wife also owned and operated Food Fare in Hudson for 19 years before retiring together. Roy enjoyed building houses for a number of years and restoring Corvettes and Chevelles. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra Kirby Barnwell of the home, daughter, Julie Barnwell Triplett and husband Stephen of Lenoir, son, Michael Barnwell and wife Joyce of Lewiston, NY, a sister, Emily Craig (Bill) of Lenoir and a brother, Wayne Barnwell (Margaret) of Lenoir. Also left to cherish his memory are his beloved grandchildren, Sarah Triplett Bowman (Cody) of Lenoir and Kendall Triplett of Lenoir, Greydan Barnwell and Devan Barnwell of Lewiston, NY,
A funeral service to honor Mr. Barnwell will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Union Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Craven officiating. Burial will follow the service in the North Catawba Baptist Church Cemetery.
Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Union Grove Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers,the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Union Grove Baptist Church at 1808 Union Grove Road, Lenoir, NC 28645, North Catawba Fire Department at 2064 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, N C 28645 or to Amorem (formerly Caldwell Hospice) at 902 Kirkwood Street Lenoir, N C 28645.
