Preston Hodge Harper Sr., 86, of Lenoir, NC passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born in Caldwell County to the late James Harper and Willie Mae Clark Harper.
He was a proud member of St. Paul AME Church in Lenoir where he sang with various choirs. He shared his gift of singing with the Pilgrims of Faith of Morganton, NC and the Friendly Five of Tobaccoville, NC.
Mr. Harper proudly served his country in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Pride of Caldwell Lodge #713.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Jones Harper; brothers, James Harper and Claude Harper of Lenoir, NC; and sister, Jean Marie Harper of Lenoir, NC.
Those left to cherish his memory include sons, Preston Harper, Jr. (Mycenia) of Matthews, NC, Matthew Harper, Sr. (Barbara) of Mt. Holly, NC, and Jeffery Harper (Helen) of Ft. Worth, TX; and daughter, Ginny Harper of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Andre Harper, Carolyn Harper, Zachariah Harper, Ginger Harper, Matthew Harper, Jr., and Christian Harper; great granddaughters, Jacia, Aleyah, and Isabella; and his beloved cousin, Helen Isabel of Lenoir, NC.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016, 1:00 pm, at St. Paul AME Church with Reverend Byron Grayson officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 11:00 am-1:00 pm prior to the service.
Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military honors provided by the NC National Guard and the Caldwell County Veteran's Honor Guard.
