Nellie Griffin Simmons

Mrs. Simmons was born April 23, 1923 in Wilkes County to the late John H. Griffin and Artie Ellis Griffin. She is also preceded in death by her husband William Clyde Simmons, one son, Julius Simmons, Jr. and his wife Linda, two granddaughters; Robin Simmons and Patricia Bowers, five brothers; Homer, Arthur, John, Don and Bill Griffin, one sister, Bessie Mae Hale.

Mrs. Simmons was retired from Bernhardt Furniture and attended Oakland Heights Baptist Church.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by four sons; Edward Simmons and wife Pauline of Lenoir, Raymond Simmons and wife Joann of Patterson, Randy Simmons and friend Faith of Patterson, William Arthur (Bud) Simmons and wife Helen of Taylorsville, one daughter Peggy Hinson and husband Bill of Granite Falls, six grandsons and 5 granddaughters, 19 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Simmons will be at 4:00 pm Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend Joel Cook officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 4:00pm on Thursday, October 11, 2012 prior to the services.

Grandchildren and family friends will serve as pallbearers.
