Melvin Howard Jenkins

Mr. Jenkins was born May 12, 1931 in Caldwell County to the late Melvin Arnold Jenkins and Cora Mae Summerlin Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkins was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He worked for Singer Furniture Industries as the Director of Management Information Systems for many years. He was a lifelong member of College Avenue Baptist Church where he was very active , serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director and also a member of the choir.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 65 years, Peggy Craig Jenkins of the home, his son, David Jenkins and wife Tania of Atlanta Georgia, daughter, Becky J. Stevens and husband Jerry of Lenoir, grandchildren Brandi Pennell and husband Jason of Lenoir, Jordan and Joshua Jenkins, both of Atlanta Georgia and one great grandchild, Carson Pennell.

A Funeral Service to honor Mr. Jenkins will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at College Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Chuck Brawley officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.

The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Jenkins, Jason Pennell, Curtis Moore, Bill Williams, Mike Suddreth and Mike Lutz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church: Music Fund at 119 King Street, Morganton, NC 28655.
