Mr. Marvin Daniel Hartso Jr., 63, of Lenoir passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022 at UNC Healthcare Blue Ridge in Morganton. Mr. Hartso was born on October 26, 1958 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Reverend Marvin Daniel Hartso Sr. and Catherine Witherspoon Hartso of Lenoir.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Hartso.
Marvin worked many years as Lieutenant of the Caldwell County Sheriff Department. He also worked as a Technician for Bemis Manufacturing and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sue Bowers Hartso of the home, sons, Marvin Daniel Hartso III of Durham, Jonathan Bowers and wife Heather of Chapel Hill, daughter, Suzanne Bowers Smith of Chapel Hill, grandchildren, Olivia Bowers, Gabrielle Bowers and Jon Bowers Jr., brothers Cecil Hartso and wife, Rev. Dottie Hartso of Lenoir, Mark Hartso and wife Johanna of Lenoir, sisters, Cathy Hartso Dula and husband Jeff of Lenoir, Tammy Hartso of Lenoir and Peggy Hartso Lopez and husband Osney of Lenoir.
Marvin loved the Lord with all his heart and he adored his family. He was a phenomenal husband for 40 years and loved his wife, Sue, more than himself. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her and so you rarely saw one without seeing the other. He also had a very special bond with his mother, Catherine Hartso, as well as his siblings and cousins. Marvin was a wonderful provider who loved his children and his precious grandbabies very much. He was truly the best "Poppi" in the whole world. Spending time with his family was the joy of his life. Before his health declined, Marvin was an avid camper and enjoyed camping in Wilkesboro with his close friends and family. He also loved his cat, Cecil, and all things Marine Corps. Marvin made his family laugh hysterically all the time even throughtout all of his illnesses. His family loves him dearly and will miss him very much until we join him in Heaven.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Life Center with Rev. Dr. Terry Hunt, Rev. Morris Hatton, Rev. James Wilfong, Rev. Jimmy Norwood and Rev. Dottie Hartso officiating. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corps and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family respectfully requests that covid protocols be followed and masks will be required.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Bowers, Marvin Hartso III, Patrick Dula, Osney Lopez, Osney Lopez Jr. and Asa Lopez.
Honarary pallbearers will include Dean Witherspoon, Leven Hendrix, James Bass, Jeff Dula.
Serving as flowergirls will be cousins and friends of Marvin Hartso, Jr.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at The Life Center.
