Mrs. Margaret Jane "Janie" Laws Jones, 90, of Hudson graduated to Glory from her "mountain home" on Friday, February 11, 2022. Janie was born July 3, 1931 in Washington County, PA to the late George Isaac and Dorothy Miles Laws.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" W. Jones, stepmother, Frieda Laws, two sister, Ruth Laws, Dee Decker, and a grandson, Austin Fanis.
Janie was a dedicated member of Crossroads Community Church in Hudson. Janie was a loving and caring person, a devoted wife, mother and friend. Always thinking of others first, and always ready with a sweet smile, warm hug and a loving kiss to those she greeted "to know her, was to love her". Growing up in a loving, caring home, she spent time with the Salvation Army but never professed her faith in Jesus
Christ until she was in her 70's. She was always sorry that she waited so long and encourages everyone to do it TODAY. Janie loved to read her bible, pray for her friends and family and especially for her children and grandchildren serving in the many branches in the United States Military. She was all about thanking everyone for their service to this country, their families and our freedoms. She, along with her deceased husband, Dick, lived by a quote by John Wesley: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can".
She was known for giving her time to others, while always fellowshipping in the Lord. At Bethel Colony of Mercy, she made cards, decorations for special occasions, cooked and baked for the men and the staff and attended Sunday services on occasion. She was also active at Hudson United Methodist Women's Group, in the sewing group that made quilts, bears and dolls for the hospital and fire department. She also made fellowship decorations, cooked and sang at nursing homes. She was also involved with a card making group in Morganton where she made cards to encourage others. During the card making meetings, they made cards, ate and encouraged each other. She enjoyed painting, crafting, card making and quilting. Janie was known as an encourager, a peace keeper and exuded a calming spirit.
Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Jones of Hudson, two sons, Larry A. Jones of Alabama, Charles "Chuck" Jones of California and a brother, George Laws of Florida. The legacy will carry on with her six grandchildren: Melissa, Amber, Kelly, Elizabeth, Tyler and Travis, nine great grandchildren, River, Briar, Brooks, Griffin, Aspyn, Alexander "Lex", Isabella, Bryce and Robert. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive her.
Also surviving are her very special, adopted grandchildren, Phyllis and Alesia Sarra of the home, who also were her voluntary caregivers and loved her deeply. They became family and meant the world to Janie.
A Funeral Service and Remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Crossroads Community Church with Rev. Rick Bowman and Rev. Ronnie Turner leading the celebration. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the church.
The family would like to thank Amorem, (Caldwell Hospice) for their constant and loving care and the Pastors and all of those who called, prayed and visited while she was unable to attend church services, she loved and respected each of you.
