Mr. Corpening was born in Caldwell County to the late Luther Corpening, Sr. and Bessie Annie Mae Hood Corpening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Ann Corpening.
Mr. Corpening was retired from the furniture industry and was of the Holiness faith. He loved to sing gospel music and was a former member of several gospel music groups.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Tracy Corpening of Lenoir, Lionel Corpening of Asheville and Richard Corpening of Asheboro; his daughters, Sandra (George) Chalk of Lenoir, and Lisa Corpening of Asheboro; his brothers, Larry (Paula) Corpening of Lenoir, Paul Corpening of Lenoir, Kelly Corpening of Lenoir, Steve (Tammy) Corpening of Conover, and Ricky Corpening of Lenoir; his sisters, Caroline Corbin of Lenoir, Hazel (Fonze) Horton of Lenoir, Debra Corpening of Lenoir and Gail Lipford of Lenoir; eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend James Wilfong, Reverend Marcus Corpening, Pastor Valerie Hightower and Pastor Kathy Hemphill officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Saturday and open hours at the home of Mr. Corpening.
Serving as pallbearers and flower girls will be family members and friends of Mr. Corpening.
The family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
