Jimmie Lavon Summerlin, age 79, of Hudson passed on to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Jim was born in Lenoir, NC on March 19, 1942 to Clarence W. and Mary Hollar Summerlin. Jim graduated from Lenoir High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from Lenoir Rhyne, and a master’s degree from Appalachian State. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving proudly at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Jim was a loving husband, wonderful Paw Paw and Disney prince, and beloved Uncle to his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his forever dance partner, his wife of 51 years, Sherry Langley Summerlin, daughter, Kim Burns (David), granddaughter, Katie S. Burns, his baby brother, Mickey Summerlin (Gwen), sisters in law, Eleanor Langley, Doris Langley, Bettie Burroughs (Van, Holly, Andy, Van 2, Robin), and cherished nieces and nephews, R. Gray Langley (Tammy, Kate, James, Meg, Michael), Melinda Alvarez (Charles, Drew, Anna), Cheryl Snow (Rick), Michelle Corey (Phil), Barry Langley (Cynthia, Amy), Harry Langley (Phyllis, Phillip), Lewis Langley (Bobbie, Whitaker Jane, Daniel), W. Raleigh Langley (Kristen, Emma), Benji Langley (Shannon), Finn, Boyd, Angelo, Anna, Michelle, Lily, and Bella.
Jim retired from the Caldwell County Department of Social Services. After retirement he enjoyed volunteering at the Caldwell County Library. He was a faithful member of Hudson United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir and the Oasis Sunday School class. Also, he was a past Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader and served in other capacities at his church. He was a past member of the Hudson Lions Club and served as Secretary for many years. Jim was a voracious reader with a quick wit and a master solver of crossword puzzles. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service with masks required will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 4:00pm at the Hickman Cemetery on Mathewson Street in Hudson with the Rev. Holly McKim officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the North Carolina Army Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
