Mr. Benfield was born September 30, 1934 in Caldwell County to the late James Willard Benfield and Alta Banks Benfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Charlie, Andy, Louis, Walter, Floyd Benfield and a nephew Jeff Benfield.
Mr. Benfield was a loving and dedicated husband. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Mr. Benfield retired form Bernhardt Furniture in 1999, after over 40 years of dedicated service. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed working with wood, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 42 years, Betty Dooly Benfield of the home, his stepson; Christopher Lee Bennett of Wilkesboro, and a stepdaughter; Angela Ross and husband Warren of Hickory, grandchildren; Ryan Watts of Hickory, and Braxton Bennett of Wilkesboro.
Also left to cherish his memory are his nephews; Allen Benfield, David Benfield, Mark Benfield, Timothy Benfield and Charlie Benfield.
A graveside service will be held to honor Mr. Benfield on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir with Rev. David Benfield officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Allen Benfield, Timothy Benfield, Mark Benfield, Chris Bennett, Ryan Watts and Warren Ross.
Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corp and the Caldwell County Honor Guard.
