HETTIE PAULINE SIMMONS

Hettie Pauline Simmons, 69, of Lenoir went home to be with her Lord and Savior at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson on August 2, 2017.

Mrs. Simmons was born March 5, 1948 in Caldwell County to the late Isaac Herald and Hettie Killian Herald.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lynn Bowers, brother, James Herald, two sisters, Christine Williams, Lucille Herald and two infant siblings.

Hettie was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother, a lady with a huge heart, who loved caring for others and helping in any way she could. She was known for feeding others in need, helping with rent when families would run short on money, and just being a true friend. Mrs. Simmons was a hardworking, determined woman who was retired from Kincaid Furniture after forty-two years of service, then also retired from Wal-Mart after twenty-seven years of service, rarely ever missing a day at work. She enjoyed walking at the Broyhill Walking Park and camping.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of fifty years, Edward Simmons of the home, daughters, Sandra Bowers and husband Grant of Lenoir, Michelle Shew and Husband Rev. Jerry Shew of Lenoir, a sister, Nellie Reba Swafford of Shelby, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous other extended family members.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Shew officiating. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.

Serving as pallbearers will be Curtis Bowers Jr., Edward Simmons, Joey Simmons, Shane Hinson, Aaron Cantelmo and Jorge Chang.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
