Mrs. Clay was born in Caldwell County to the late Duncan Cameron McCall and Martha Price McCall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Mutt” Clay; brothers, Garland, James, Donald and David McCall; sisters, Annie White, Mildred Turner, Louellen Smith, Leona “Sis” Simmons and Ruth Moore. She was a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include her children, Jenette “Susie” Smith and husband Jim, Virginia Sigmon and husband Powell, Linda Clay and husband Bill; Dennis Clay and John Clay and wife Louella; sisters, Louise McCall, Edith Medlock and Willa Dean Burgess; nineteen grandchildren, Donna Simmons and husband Fred, Renee’ Wood and husband Dwight, Cathi Gann and husband John, Dr. Karen Anderson and husband Chuck, Carol West and husband Myron, Tammy Russell and husband Don, Billy Clay and special friend Matt, Joe Clay, Kristy Clay, Casey Clay and wife Amanda, John Clay and wife Jackie, Sarah Clay, Rebecca Pennell and husband Joe, Amanda Williams and husband Kurt, Beth Clay, Lynn Whisnant, Brian Barrier, Tommy Mull and Kelli Bachstein; twenty-nine great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Reverend Allen Boliek officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Littlejohn United Methodist Church from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the Clay family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
