George Lindsay Green, a friend in the Baton community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2011. He was the son of the late Lindsay and Katie Green. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Green, three brothers Howard, Carl and Roy Green all of the Baton Community and a sister, Ruth Amick of the Gamewell Community. He is survived by Carolyn and Larry Woodie of Lenoir, Richard and Peggy Greene of Hudson, and Kathy and Tony Ramsey of Sawmills. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Mrs. Tim (Kristy) Black, Michael and Stacy Woodie, and Mindy and Connie Ramsey and his great grandchildren: Trent and Katie Black, and Cole Leary.
Mr. Green was a proud member of the North Catawba Fire Department where he served as chief for 22 years and has served on the Board of Directors since 1980. He was a past president of the Caldwell County Firemen’s Association and received the Long Leaf Pine Award as well as the Citizen of the Year Award from the Baton Ruritan Club for work he has done in the Fire Department and Community. George was a member, Deacon, usher, and greeter at Mountain Grove Baptist Church. He was a past president of the Baton Water Corporation.
Funeral services for Mr. Green will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 4:00 pm at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Woodie officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Pendry’s Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the North Catawba Fire Dept, Board of Directors and members of his Sunday school class.
