Mrs. Audrey (Gail) Pennell, age 72, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Audrey was born December 3, 1950 in Caldwell County to the late Rexford and Betty Coffey Hamby.
Gail earned her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Dorothea Dix School of Nursing and worked as a nurse at the Murdoch Center in Butner, NC then at the J Iverson Riddle Center in Morganton for many years. She was a loving and devoted wife. Gail loved to read in her spare time, she loved her pet cats and dogs and she enjoyed watching the hummingbirds on her deck. Gail enjoyed traveling and trips to the beach were among her favorites.
Those left to cherish her precious memory are her beloved husband, Ronnie Pennell of the home, two brothers, Garry Blaine Hamby of Lenoir and Robin McRay Hamby and wife Lisa of Virginia, her niece Meredith Joder and her husband Jason and their children, Dominic, Trinity, and Malachi, a nephew, Nick Hamby and children, Taylor and Kelsey, and a brother-in-law, Rick Pennell and wife Pam Martin Pennell.
A funeral service will be held to honor Gail on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lee and Rev. Jimmy Hamby officiating. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Pennell, David Spake, Mark Cline, Keith Lingle, Kevin Stine, David Hamby, Kenneth Dula and Cody Drum.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 10:45 am until 11:45 am at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
