Born October 13th, 1934 Betty was the 3rd of 7 children born to the late Rufus and Clonsie White. She graduated from Gamewell High School and married her high school sweetheart the late
Lewis Jackson “Jack” Swanson in 1953. She was a homemaker and worked for over 20 years at William’s Supermarket in Lenoir as the head cashier and bookkeeper.
A member of Nazareth Advent Christian Church, Betty was strong in her christain faith and loved the Lord. Ms. Betty knew her mission in life was to help those in need. A two time cancer survivor she was a loving momma and nana; the rock of her family and will be deeply missed by her surviving family;
daughter Denise Swanson, granddaughter Brandi La’Raye, & grandson Cody William-Lewis Dockery, as well as her faithful and loving dog Sophie.
In addition to her parents and first husband Jack; she was proceeded in death by: second husband James “Jim” Swanson, sisters Helen Miller & Aretta Able, brothers Russell White & Marshall White. In addition to her daughter and grandchildren she is survived by her sister Gail White Whisnant, & brother
James “Arnold” White as well as many nieces and nephews. Ms. Betty was a true representation of the virtuous, righteous, and warmhearted character that we all have inside of us. Her touch was nurturing and always laid a warm hand on any problem that was brought to her. In life she devoted her time to
scripture and caretaking of her loved ones and in death she would be content that her morals and selflessness has made an impact on those she knew in life.
She was a simple loving lady and will be laid to rest beside the love of her life her Jack at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in a small graveside service on Thursday October 14th, 2021 at 2:00 pm.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is
laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that
day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
