Mr. Jones was born in Oak Ridge, TN to the late Jim Jones and Mazzie Tilley Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 40 years, Rennette Corpening Jones, who passed away on January 8, 2014; a sister, Ossie E. Thomas; a twin brother, David R. Jones; his grandmother, Ozzie Tilley; grandfather, Larkin Tilley, and a cousin, Arthur Davenport.
Mr. Jones was a teacher for Caldwell County Schools for 10 years and was employed with Thomasville Furniture for 23 years. He was a member of the First Church of God in Lenoir where he served on the Trustee Committee. He was a member of the NCAAP and was a board member of Blue Ridge Community Action. He was involved with youth activities and was a vocal person for the youth.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Reginald Jones of Lenoir; his daughter, Tonette Banner Cheatam of Orlando, FL; his sisters, Lola Mae Jones; a sister-in-law, Brenda L. Poteat of Spencer, NC; his grandchildren, Tekia Bass of Durham and Bryson Harshaw of Morganton; a great grandchild, Coy Bass of Durham; his nieces, Matoka Horton of Clarksville, TN, Nella Perez of Lenoir, Delores Wilson of Augusta, GA, Tonya Jones of Salisbury, NC, and Davette Patterson Yount of Conover, NC; his nephews, Maurice Jones and Douglas Jones, both of Lenoir and a great-niece, Jameka Horton of Clarksville, TN, and a host of great nieces and great nephews.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Church of God in Lenoir with Pastor Jerome Pearson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
