Mr. Charles Talmadge Greer, 78, of Granite Falls, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Greer was born on April 6, 1938 in Watauga County to the late Joe Greer and Telar Parsons Greer.
Charles was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who truly enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family. He was employed for over 42 years at Bernhardt Furniture, Plant #3, and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Greer loved his animals, he had dogs, doves, pigeons and the list could go on. He and his wife loved to travel together and spent much time just driving around to different places together.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Greer was preceded in death by two sons; Danny and Darrell Austin, two brothers; Roy and Reverend Raymond Greer, four sisters; Annie Greene, Bertha St. John, Betty Cook, Omie Patrick and two grandsons; Shawn Miller and Ashley Austin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife; Joyce Rhymer Greer, of the home, sons; Sonny Greer of Lenoir, Gary Austin and wife Dee Dee, Gene Austin and wife Sherry and Ricky Austin and wife Jan, all of Granite Falls, daughters; Vickie Prevette and husband Larry of Morganton, Jane Miller and husband David of Lenoir, Nelda Minton and husband William of Lenoir, Rhonda Greer of Hudson, Dawn Greer and Stanley Auton of Hickory, Heather Brewer and husband Rodney of Granite Falls, sisters, Agnes Chandler of Jacksonville, FL, and Shirley Davis and husband Stanley of Lenoir.
Also left to cherish his memory are twenty-seven grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Union Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Sam Craven and Reverend James Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Brewer, Ricky Chandler, Ryan Potter, Dylan Miller, Dennis Johnson and Kevin Coffey.
The family will receive friends at the church for two hours prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.
