Mrs. Arney was born March 22, 1931, in Wilkes County to the late William H. and Ila Gaither Hurley.
Betty was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed as a secretary for the Caldwell County Health Department for many years, and worked in the Caldwell County School system at West Caldwell High School and Whitnel Elementary as a Librarian. Betty loved to bake cakes, for any occasion. Many people in Caldwell County have been blessed by her love for baking. She made birthday cakes and wedding cakes for numbers of people. She also had a love for the outdoors and was outside, gardening and growing the flowers that she loved, every chance she had. She was also a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Millers Creek.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilburn Arney, four brothers; Max, Jack, Hugh, Arnold “Van” Hurley, two sisters; Kyra Dancy and Juanita Woods.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, James Franklin Anderson Jr, and wife Kim Stevenson of Hudson, grandchildren, Brad Anderson and wife Catina of Lenoir, Larry Anderson and wife Jessica of Kings Creek, Cory Wiles and wife Laura of North Lakes, and Kaiti Wiles of Hickory, a brother; Rex David Hurley of Anderson SC, a great granddaughter; Haleigh Brooke Anderson of Lenoir and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. She will also be greatly missed by her two grand dogs; Molly and Bubba who she loved very much.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home in Lenoir.
