Born July 18, 1919 in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Elzy Ramson Souther, and Leanna Jarvis Souther.
Mrs. Hayes was a homemaker and was married to the late Woodrow Wilson Hayes for 63 years. He passed away March 8, 2009. From their union two sons were born. The oldest was Jimmie MacArthur Hayes, who passed away December 18, 2005, and Willie Hayes, who also preceded her in death on December 19, 1969 at the age of 14.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four grandchildren, Rev. Tammy H. James (Jeff), Rev. Max Hayes, all of Statesville; Amanda H. Ellis (Adam) and Joshua Hayes (Kayla), all of Wilkesboro. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Crystal James, Keria Hayes and Sydney Ellis; and daughter-in-law, Tera Hayes Kennedy (Jonathan) of Hays, NC.
Anna Belle will be laid to rest beside her husband and sons on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Old Salisbury Road in North Wilkesboro. The Rev. Gene Shepherd will officiate. The family will speak to friends and family following the service.
