Elvira is survived by her four children, David Provencio, Sara Sanchez, Beatrice Gonzalez, Yolanda Provencio, three grandchildren (Jorge, Grace, Nicole) and three great-grandchildren(Gabriella, Ryan, Delilah). She also leaves behind 4 sisters and 3 brothers: Luz Reyes, Elena Veyna, Lupe Ronquillo, Celia Baron, Roberto Veyna, Jose Veyna and Manuel Veyna.
Elvira was born in Chino, CA and when she lived and worked in El Paso, Texas, she met Carlos Provencio. On January 18, 1958 they married and began a life together until Carlos passed in 2008.
“Grandma” was adored and loved by all who knew her. She had a fun-loving sense of humor that instantly drew people to her; from those in the neighborhood to the hospital staff that cared for her when she fell ill. We often heard “she’s so cute” from people who spent even a short time with her.
“Mom” was a great mother to all her kids and grandkids. She took care of her children and all her grandchildren with adoring love. A wonderful provider even to her last days on earth, she did what every mom is supposed to do; she loved, protected and provided for her family. Always telling us “mucho cuidado” (be careful) and “no manejes recio” (don’t drive too fast).
She sat with her kids and taught us our times tables and division; she volunteered at our elementary schools, grading papers, and always went to our classroom open-house to talk to our teachers. When her three oldest turned 21 she took them to Las Vegas on the Red-Eye bus; a love for the casinos that never left her. She loved playing on the máquinas (slot machines).
We will miss our Mom sitting at the front door waving goodbye to us as we drove away.
Elvira was a wonderful Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Tia, Auntie, Friend, Comadre, Neighbor, and most important, a strong courageous woman. While we are glad she is no longer in pain or suffering we will miss her tremendously here on earth but know she is watching over us.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 4 - 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. both at Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary (7387 Broadway - Lemon Grove, CA 91945). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 9, 2012 - 1 p.m. at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church (8086 Broadway - Lemon Grove, CA 91945). Burial will follow the Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband Carlos.
Blessed are those who have died in the Lord; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them.
Eternal rest grant unto Elvira, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace. Amen.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen.
