Dorothy Louise Rhodes was born March 18, 1936 in San Diego, California to John Wheeler Meyer and Katherine Meyer. She went home to her Lord on September 13, 2013 in Lemon Grove, California. She was born in a Navy family and traveled the U.S. following her father’s tour in the United States Navy. Glenn met Dorothy at a party when he was 18 and she was 16. He kissed her and she came back for more. They went together for a year. She was living with her family in Benson, Arizona and at the age of 17 (Glenn was 19), he picked her up and brought her back to San Diego (with her parents’ permission) as his bride. They started raising their family, two sons, Harold and Alan. Both Dorothy and Glenn were baptized in 1960 at the Lemon Grove Church of Christ.
Dorothy and Glenn celebrated their 25th Anniversary by renewing their vows in Arizona and having a party in La Mesa, California; celebrated their 50th on a cruise to Hawaii followed by a party. This past June they celebrated their 60th by renewing their vows at the Christian Church of Lemon Grove.
Dorothy was awarded 1st prize at the Del Mar Fair for her Gooseberry Pie; she was a member of the Zoological Society of San Diego, she helped with Scouts and a member of the Republican Party. Dorothy always helped all children who needed any kind of support and was always there for her neighbors and friends in any way possible.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Glenn; sons Harold and Debra of Temecula, California; Alan and Brenda of Lemon Grove, California; brothers Charlie and Wanda Meyer of Benson, Arizona; Jim Meyer of Phoenix, Arizona; John and Colleen Meyer of Redlands, California; sisters Lois Holwig of Logan, Utah; Marilyn and Bob Regen of Logan, Utah; 6 grandchildren Brandi, Jim, Nicki, Dustin, Krysta, Emma and 2 great grandchildren Brooklyn and Madison.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 4 -7 p.m. at Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Church of Lemon Grove (6970 San Miguel Avenue – Lemon Grove, CA 91945). Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
Dorothy was much loved and will be deeply missed.
