Ann S Matney, 93, of Lemon Grove, CA died Wednesday, the 17th of June. She was born in Ashland, Kentucky, the daughter of Catherine Young and James H Scott. After attending Ashland School of Commerce she worked for Koppers Coal Company until leaving to marry. Once married, she followed her husband, LT William H Matney USNR, to a number of duty locations. During WWII She worked for several defense related companies including Sperry Gyroscope and Sunset Electric. Following the war, and settling in the Maryland and northern Virginia area, she worked as a secretary for the General Services Administration and the Fairfax County School Board. Following her husband’s retirement they moved to the San Diego area in 1970. She is survived by two daughters Mallory Larson of Lemon Grove, CA and Janet Lane of Memphis, TN; three grandchildren, Kirsten Tripes of El Cajon CA, David Larson of Folsom, CA, and Scott Lane of Park City, UT; she is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Nathan and Seth Duckett of El Cajon, CA, Torsten Tripes of El Cajon, CA, and Weston Luis Lane of Park City, UT, as well as two step-great-grandchildren Savanna and Dillon Tripes of El Cajon. Ann’s husband, William H Matney, predeceased her in December 2005. Private services: 2 PM Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary, 7387 Broadway, Lemon Grove, CA.
