John Thomas Hughes, 85, of Lehigh Acres, FL, passed away December 12. Johnwas born December 30, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA to John Brown Hughes andDorothy Harkness Hughes. John retired in 1984 as the Cinnaminson, New JerseyTownship Administrator and moved to Lehigh Acres.He leaves his loving wife of 56 years, Anna Don Hughes; daughter, SallyHughes Carman of Lehigh Acres: 3 sons, Sam Hughes (wife Darlene) of Riverside,NJ,;Chuck Hughes (wife April) and Tommy Hughes of Mt. Holly, NJ: 7grandchildren: Tyler Carman, Taylor Carman; Edward Anderson; Dak Hughes(wife Heather), Zebulon Hughes (wife Danah), Ulysses Hughes (wife Paula), AliaHughes, (deceased) and 11 great-grandchildren: Hailey, Selena, Danny, Drea,Camilla, Zackary, Lisa, Emileigh, Zebby, Hayden, Hunter.John held various offices in connection with his Administrator position:Deputy Tax Collector, Treasurer & Deputy Treasurer; Payroll Officer; DogRegistrar; Acting Township Clerk; Deputy Zoning Officer; Deputy BuildingInspector; Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics and Custodian of School Funds.During his working career he also held various accounting and managementpositions with Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant in Chester, PA and NovoIndustrial Corp. in Philadelphia. After retiring he accepted a part-time position inthe office of Hodges-Farley Funeral Home in Lehigh Acres.John and Anna were avid travelers. They were active in RVing for over 30years, holding offices in both the local Caloosa Chapter and Florida State Chapterof Winnebago Travelers Club. They also cruised to many interesting worlddestinations, sharing their adventures with family and friends through descriptiveletters and picturesJohn was a member of Covenant Lodge #161 F&AM in Palmyra, NJ for over 50years, as well as a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres,for 30 years, serving as Finance Chairperson, Staff Parish Chairperson, and HeadUsher. He also held offices for 20 years in the Lehigh Cedarwood HomeownersAssociation as President, Treasurer and Secretary, as well as in the East GreensCondominium Association for 9 years as President, Vice President and BudgetChairperson.Memorial services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres, FL at 10 AM Monday December 29th.The family requests memorial donations be made in John's name to the Hand Bell Fund at Christ United Methodist Church 1430 Homestead Rd. N. Lehigh Acres, FL 33936.Arrangements are being handled by the Hodges-Farley Funeral Home.
