John R. Jeane, age 94, went to be with his Lord on Monday, February 25, 2013. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville, Louisiana. Services will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 10:00 at Hixson Funeral Home. He was born on February 12, 1919 in a country home in the Pickering Community to the late Bart B. and Katie (Graham) Jeane. He graduated in 1937 from Pickering High School, attended Louisiana Normal College (Northwestern) on a basketball scholarship. Before World War II he worked for the CCC. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1941 serving and training soldiers as a Tech Sargent in Georgia, The Panama Canal and Camp Fannin, Texas. In 1946 he married Hazel Oakes and soon after moved to Galveston, Texas where he went to work in the ship yards. From there he worked in South Texas in the oil field. He retired from Sun Oil Company in 1973 and moved back to Leesville to manage rental properties.
He was a member of Cooper Baptist Church. An avid gardener he enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents; sister, Grace Sellers; brothers, Lonnie Jeane, Cecil Jeane, Lee Jeane and J.B. Jeane.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel Oakes Jeane of Leesville; daughter Glynda and her husband, Charles (Sonny) Baker, of Huntsville, Texas; son, Kenny and his wife, Ivy Jeane, of Leesville; four grandchildren: Chad and his wife, Tracy Jeane, of Greenbrier, AR.; Justin and his wife Jayme Jeane of Greenbrier, AR.; Trey and his wife Brooke Baker of Montgomery, Texas and Jane and her husband Brent Maresh of New Braunfels, Texas. Six great grandchildren: Katherine Jeane, Annabeth Jeane, Fisher Jeane, Brooke Jeane, Elizabeth Maresh, and Brody Maresh. He is also survived by his sister, Bernice Jeane Lachney and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Remembrances may be made to Cooper Baptist Church, Hospice of Leesville, or Donor’s choice.
