Here we sit, pen in hand about to perform one of life's unthinkable chores, that of announcing to the world the loss of one of our children.
Our son, William Clay Reynolds was born to us, a gift from God, on July 19, 1969. He was called home to God on June 3, 2011 in the 41st year of his life after a five year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Clay was a graduate of John Carroll Catholic High School and the University of Alabama receiving a BA Degree. During his tenure at Alabama, he worked as a DJ at several radio stations in and around Tuscaloosa.
Upon graduation, he moved to Utah and 2 years later on to Montana where he lived for 3 years. In both places he worked as a DJ at local radio stations. After several years he returned to Birmingham to take a position with WIAT, Channel 42. While there, he met and married his former wife. Clay returned to school at U of A, Birmingham for post-graduate work receiving Microsoft Engineering Certification. His last place of employment was with the Shelby County Board of Education as a computer specialist, which he was forced to leave due to his declining health.
The last few months of his life were spent in homecare with Ms. Deanna Cochran who took wonderful care of him with the help of Ms. Andrea Wood. Hope Hospice was with him through this last journey. His nurse, Ms. Shirley Keller and Doris Cooper and Matt Griffith (his case worker) were the other staff members who took care of him. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards these people who loved him and took such loving care of him. We, as his family, could not have made it through these last months without them.
Clay is survived by his parents, Shirley and Knox Reynolds of Moody; his brother, Greg; sister-in-law, Donna; nephew, Andrew; niece, Rachel all of Pelham. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, George and Janette Beavers, Martha and John Dorsett; cousins, Susan Cross, Eddie Dorsett, Kathy Raughley, Lori Riley and Sharon Thomas. He is also survived by his long-time closest friend and buddy, Mike Lewis of Denver, Colorado.
A Funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 10:30 AM, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Leeds with visitation one hour before the Service. A short service of Committal of the Ashes will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3840 Ridgeway Dr., B'ham, AL 35209.
