Jennie Stone was born October 12, 1934, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Mallie Vernon and Ella Baldwin Carmichael and sister to Vernon Owen. Jennie was married to Lloyd L. “Peb” Stone, her husband of 53 years, who passed away in 2010. She is survived by two children, Nancy Stone Mansfield (John) and Lloyd “Trey” L. Stone III (Miriam); grandchildren Katie Mansfield Bastain (children: Hava, Isaiah and Jonah), Christie Mansfield McKinney (Alex, children: Malia, Gideon and Moira), Abigial Mansfield Rayford (Brian, children: Dean and Jude), John William Mansfield Jr., Andrew Leftwich Stone (Hallie, son: Eli), Mallie Stone Vincent (Joe, daughter: Virginia).
After attending Mississippi State University, Jennie moved to Birmingham and met the love of her life. The two were married in the summer of 1956. They then embarked on a wonderful journey, moving first to Texas where both of their children were born. Soon after, they moved to California and spent the next 13 years in both Northern and Southern California. Jennie’s Southern charm was quickly noticed out West where they met many lifelong friends. They moved back to Birmingham in 1978 and started a new life in Branchville. The Stones were highly active in their community and formed many cherished relationships. Jennie and Peb became active as loyal members of Briarwood Presbyterian Church happily becoming part of the Joyful Hearts Sunday School class. They were very blessed to spend many years traveling the world admiring God’s creations. Jennie never met a stranger, made everyone feel like family, wouldn’t hesitate to beat you at gin rummy and the world was brighter because of her love for life.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday May 1st at 1:00 PM at Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
Donations can be made in Jennie’s honor to the Briarwood Missions Ministry.
