Travis Hellard Mayfield was born on November 19, 1955, to Travis Hellard, Sr., and Willie Mae Beasley Mayfield of Brookside, Alabama.
In 1975, Travis married the love of his life, Vickey McCleney, and over the next nearly 48 years they built a life worth celebrating. In the early years, their love of travel took them to Castaic Lake, Santa Catalina Island, Big Bear, Joshua Tree National Park, Mount Whitney, the Shasta Mountains, and The Grand Canyon. Along the way, they got to see all the cool bands including live concerts from The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, and Santana.
The proudest moments were when he became a father in 1981 to Jonathan Travis and then again in 1989 to Kelly Lois, where he grew into a strong and wise father.
During Travis’ 20+ year construction career, he helped build and remodel several key landmarks across Central Alabama, such as Protective Life Insurance Company, Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, Birmingham Eye Foundation, Children’s Hospital, Sanford University’s Lathrop Library, Shades Mountain Baptist Church, and Our Lady of Angels Monastery.
From this career, Travis developed a love of carpentry and woodworking that in his retirement produced toy boxes, swings, benches, and furniture.
Travis is survived by his wife Vickey; son Jonathan, Holli, Chelsey, Seth, Kamoni; daughter Kelly, J.R., Noah, Angel; sisters Winnell Eickstead (Jerry Mathis), Pauline Daughtery (James), Myra Pickett, Ann Howse (Doug); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry his memory forever until we are all reunited with him in heaven.
Our family would like to send a special thank you to Lakeside Hospice, Pell City. To Amy, Cristy, Karen, Karsen, Tracy and Chaplain Larry, thank you for your devoted care through the end. You went above and beyond, and we are touched and forever grateful.
