On Thursday July 25, 2024, James Alexander passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was 76 years old. While growing up in Trussville Alabama, James enjoyed a wonderful childhood and young adulthood. At Hewitt Trussville High, James played football and competed in track and field in both the shot put and discus. At both Jefferson State Community College and Jacksonville State University, he also competed in these two track and field events as a college athlete. James’ commitment to his hometown later extended into his adult life as a public servant. He became the youngest ever person elected to the Trussville City Council.
Another lifelong love for James was Auburn football. He came by this affinity via a strong family connection. His grandfather attended the first ever Auburn football game. The 1892 contest was against the University of Georgia, and it served as the start of what became known as “The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.” Although James chose Jacksonville State as his college alma mater, he never wavered in his connection to Auburn. He felt the famed Auburn Creed epitomized a true philosophy for what Auburn represented and a good approach to life. James’ favorite quote from the Auburn Creed was “I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.”
In both his professional and personal life, James found accomplishment. He was a successful traffic manager and salesman in the trucking business. James was married to his beloved wife, Stephanie, for fifty-one wonderful years. He was a best friend and excellent father to his son, Zachary.
James is survived by his wife, Stephanie (Douglas) Alexander and his son Zachary Alexander. He is proceeded in death by his parents, John and Jeanette Alexander, his brother, Robert Alexander, and his sister-in-law Mary Ann (Alexander)Maceli. In the final difficult year of James’ life, his wife and son greatly appreciate the amazing help and guidance provided by his sister-in-law Marilyn Drennen, his niece Hillary White and her husband Brian White, and his longtime friends Jack Connell, Gayla Plott, and Barber Clark.
There will be a memorial service with immediate family honoring James at a later date. For those that are interested, donations can be made to honor his memory at Friends of the Trussville Library:
