Howard Ray Brown, beloved husband, father grandfather and friend, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 13, 2022. He was born on October 7, 1936 in Pell City, AL to Furman and Annie Brown. After graduating from Pell City High School in 1956, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served four years as an Interior Communications Electrician (IC) on the U.S.S. Corry while traveling the seas until he was honorably discharged.
When he completed his military service, he married the love of his life, Helen, on November 25, 1964. They have enjoyed a blessed and wonderful life together.
After marriage, he went to work for the L&N Railroad (now known as CSX) as a freight train conductor with a primary route from Birmingham to Nashville. At retirement, he was the senior conductor on the Mobile Division for CSX.
Howard accepted Christ as his Savior while attending Gardendale Baptist Tabernacle and was active in the bus ministry there for many years. He became involved in First Baptist Church Moody after moving to Odenville, AL post retirement.
Howard was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and eight siblings. He is survived by his loving wife Helen, two children, Karen Scott and Jeff Brown (Danna), two nephews, Vernon Steed and Milton (Anna) Steed, one niece, Lydia Steed and three grandchildren, Lawson Scott, Josey Scott and Jackson Brown. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, AL is conducting the services on Thursday, November 17th with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the service at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be family members and honorary pallbearers will be Pell City High School Class of 1956. Interment will be at Forest Crest Cemetery Birmingham (Irondale), AL following the main service.
