A man of unwavering faith and resilience, Ralph faced many physical challenges throughout his life yet remained steadfast in his walk with Christ. He faithfully served as a leader and deacon at New Lebanon Baptist Church for over 50 years, setting a powerful example of dedication, humility, and servant leadership.
Ralph devoted his life to his loving wife, Nelda (Hudgins) Martin, cherishing their 61 years of marriage with unwavering love, patience, and partnership. Together, they built a home grounded in faith, service, and deep devotion—not only to each other, but to their church, family, and community.
Ralph proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist Five, serving from 1967 to 1972. During his service, he earned the designation of Expert Marksman.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nelda; his daughter, Andrea Martin Ziegler (Joe) of Tuscaloosa; and his cherished granddaughters, Addie and Sarah Ziegler. He is also survived by his loving sister, Janet Crowe of Louisville, Kentucky.
To his granddaughters, Ralph was lovingly known as “Papa”—a title he carried with joy and pride. He was their greatest encourager, storyteller, and spiritual example, always pointing them toward Christ through both word and deed.
His favorite Bible verse was Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Ralph Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W. A. and Mildred Martin, along with his siblings Virginia Whatley, Harlis G. Martin, Annie Jo Young, W. A. Martin, Jr., and his twin brother Ray Martin.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, loyal brother, and a faithful servant of God. His legacy of love, service, and strong faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
