Mrs. Murphree was born August 31, 1935 in Sloss Mining Camp, Walker County. She moved to Odenville in 1963 and lived there for the remainder of her life. May 17, 1957 she married the love of her life, Cecil Edward Murphree. She was a member of Odenville United Methodist Church. She had a love of sewing, singing, bingo, piano, canning/freezing and gardening. She always watched “The Wheel of Fortune.” Mrs. Elsie was known to participate along with her husband Cecil in many community plays and parades. The two of them also made sure all children and grandchildren, regardless of consent, participated in costume as well. She was retired from St. Clair County School System where she worked as a bus driver. She was the first appointed police woman to the City of Odenville and was a member of The Eastern Star. Mother loved having a good time, appreciated a good joke and often Cecil provided both. She never met a stranger.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mae Ann Harland, brothers, Bob, Martin and Marvin, husband, Cecil E. Murphree (Pop), grandchild, Heather Bratcher Riley and great grandchild, Alyssa Brasher.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Lee (Bobby), Debbie Murphree (Jack Montgomery), Eddie Murphree (Carla Estis), Suzette Krogol (Don), Billy Murphree (Bernadette), eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; brothers, Clifford A. Harland, James E. Harland (Millie), George L. Harland (Wanda), Vivian Elkins, Irene Vance, sisters in law, Catherine Murphree, Barbara Allen, Betty Jo Landers (Garry); a host of nieces, nephews and special friends, and Dolly was her very special pet.
