Shirley Ann Forsberg

Born on March 8, 1941, in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta to Robert Ivan and Louie Edith Annie (“Nan” Farrant) Dann. She spent her early life in the Leslieville area, becoming big sister to Ed & Pat in her teenage years. She met the love of her life – Wayne Bruce Forsberg – at the Federal Government Experimental Farm in Lacombe where they both worked; her as a secretary.

Shirley married Wayne in Red Deer on December 16, 1961. Within a couple of years, they moved out to the Glen Park area near Calmar, Alberta to begin dairy farming and start their family.

Shirley was best known for being a seamstress, making countless outfits and costumes for her kids and grandkids. She was an avid quilter and expert embroiderer, especially Norwegian Hardanger. She loved to bake with her grandkids and was well versed at ‘feeding an army’, always having family and hired hands around.

Taking care of Wayne in the last 12 years of his life kept Shirley busy following his defeat of Meningitis, which resulted in quadruple amputations. During those years they continued farming, and Shirley kept up with sewing, cooking, baking and even embroidery when time allowed. They found joy in camping, attending the Leduc West Antique Society’s annual Antique Days and chauffeuring their grandkids to and from activities.

Leading a community-minded life, Shirley was a pillar of the community, good friend and neighbour. She was always ready to participate in community events and causes, supporting in whatever way she could. She was heavily involved in the Glen Park Hall Association as well as the Glen Park Cemetery.

Shirley will be lovingly missed by her family including: children Kym (Chris) Berkeley, Marlene Forsberg, Robert Forsberg and Rodney Forsberg; three grandchildren, Michelle (Steven) Sydney, Bryan (Jocelyn) Berkeley, Melissa (Travis) Berkeley; five great grandchildren (with a sixth on the way), Parker, Hudson and Koen Tranfield, Lance Berkeley and Abigail Sydney; brother Ed (Nadine) Dann and sister Pat (Danny) Stewart, as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, Robert & Louie Dann as well as her husband of 50 years, Wayne Bruce Forsberg.

Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Friday October 11, 2024, in Glen Park Cemetery (48441 Rge Road 280, Calmar, AB)
