He was born on November 3, 1946, in Victoria, Laguna Philippines, to Democrito Herradura Rebong I and Concepcion Bambo Desiderio. He married Amor Cacha Banay on January 28, 1968, at La Resurrection Parish in Victoria, Laguna. He worked in Manila, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Africa, and Canada, mostly as heavy equipment operator and welder, but he was happy to do any honest job that made him a good provider.
Tatay Gil was very proud of his five children all of whom graduated from post-secondary education. To him and Nanay Amor, the saying ‘education is the most valuable treasure they could give your children’ rings true. Tatay has a philanthropist spirit in him and has a big heart, helping people with his hard-earn money specially those who are sending their own children to school. He also supported new immigrants to Canada, especially when he was living in High Level, giving them car rides to work, grocery stores, or anywhere they need to go. Tatay also taught new immigrants how to drive and coached them how to pass their driving exams. Most of all he loved sharing his personal stories of struggles and successes in life and hearing about other people’s as well.
He is survived by his wife, Amor; his sister, Librada ‘Embing’ Cambe, his children Marife (Jan) Pastorin, Rhodora Martens, Bongbong (Susan) Rebong, Democrito (Theresa) Rebong, and Plaridel (Cinia) Rebong; and 15 grandchildren.
Tatay Gil loves to travel and now, he will be making his last journey on earth to go home to his Creator and rest in eternal peace.
