Elmer was the youngest son of Louie and Julia Roth, Germans from Russian immigrants who came to Canada in 1892 to settle in the Fredericksheim district southeast of Leduc. He was born in Vacaville, California when the family moved there for a short duration. Returning to Alberta, the family farmed and Elmer eventually took over his parents’ farm. Later, after retiring to Leduc, Elmer passed away peacefully in Salem Manor at the age of 97.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families; sister-in-law Joan Brown and brother-in-law Clifford Fisher. He was predeceased by Helen, his wife of 61 years in January 2013, also by his parents, four brothers, five sisters and sister-in-law Linda Fillenberg.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday September 1, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church (5 km south of Leduc on Highway 2A to Glen Park Road, then east 5km to RR 243) Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
