.John B. Hoffman, DDS, 74, of Lebanon passed away at home in his beloved garden on Thursday, August 19, 2010. He was the husband of Sigrid (Richter) and the son of Mary Buch and the late Frank S. Hoffman. He was the brother of Mary Louise (Carl Harris) and Frank, Jr. (Patricia).
Dr. Hoffman graduated from Lebanon High School, Lebanon Valley College and University of Pennsylvania Dental School and practiced dentistry since 1963. He was President of the Lebanon Historical Society, a Board Member of Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, and an active member of the Lebanon County Republican Committee. He previously was a resident of Chautauqua and served on many committees while a resident.
John touched many lives by always lending a helping hand and enjoyed designing, creating, and sharing fine furniture and wood-working pieces with his friends and family. Gardening was his fair-weather passion. He tended a large vegetable garden throughout the summer, and his perennial flower gardens and koi ponds were known throughout the community. He enjoyed watching baseball and had a life-long love of the Philadelphia A’s and the Philadelphia Phillies. He also enjoyed dinner with friends and literature and films portraying World War II.
In addition to his mother, sister and brother, John is survived by a son, J.B., (Marganne Nye), a daughter, Elizabeth (David Moyer), and step-children Michael, David (Nancy), Stephen (Sandra), and Jennifer Moffitt. Dr. Hoffman is also survived by grandchildren Claudia and Matthew Hoffman, Emily, Matthew and Chloe Moffitt, and Mary and Anna Moyer.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 26 at 1:00 PM in Miller Chapel at Lebanon Valley College. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lebanon Historical Society or the Mt.
