Jean “Spike” Moyer, 100, passed away at his home in Camp Hill, PA on Monday January 31, 2022. He was the husband of the late Florence (Meredith) Moyer, married 72 years. He was born June 30, 1921 in Millbach, PA the only child of the late Frank and Lillie (McQuate) Moyer. He is survived by his sons; Alex Moyer (Carol) of Cornelius, NC and Steve Moyer of Washington, DC. Jean was a lifelong member of St Paul’s UCC Millbach and an 80 year member of Williamson Lodge #307 Free and Accepted Masons (Womelsdorf) and Rajah Shrine (Reading). Jean graduated from Millcreek Twp. High School, Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute and Albright College. He served in the US Merchant Marine during WWII as a staff officer onboard the S.S. Wolf Mountain, a gasoline carrying tanker, in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of war. Following the war he was employed for 35 years by Michael Baker Jr, Inc, a consulting engineering firm. He was a Licensed Professional Civil Engineer, assisting in the design of many miles of Interstate highways and toll roads in the eastern United States. Upon retirement, he worked part time for 20 years as an estimator for Mark Crete Inc., excavating and paving contractor. He and Florence enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Jean was a lifelong speaker of Pennsylvania Dutch, which he learned at his mother’s knee. A funeral service will be held Thursday February 10, 2022 at Rohland Funeral Home 508 Cumberland St Lebanon PA, at 1:00pm, with a visitation starting at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at Millbach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals (donate.lovetotherescue.org).
