Emily L. (Weidner) Shaw, a resident of Stoneridge Village at Poplar Run, Myerstown and formerly of Harrisburg, passed into glory peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023 at the age of 85. Born August 10, 1937 in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late John H.E. Weidner and Emily E. (Spohn) Weidner. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest D. Shaw in 2005.
Emily graduated from John Harris High School in 1955. She was married in April 1959. She was a dedicated mother to her five children and a military spouse who created loving homes for her family in multiple locations and throughout her husband’s overseas deployments. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed music. She taught her children to read, encouraged them to embrace learning, and supported their varied interests. She had a deep love for Jesus and taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at Grace E.C. church in Lawnton for years. Later she was a faithful member of Zion UMC in Myerstown. At Stoneridge she was known for her sweet smile and enjoyed attending concerts and chapel, playing handbells, reading her Bible, singing hymns, and playing card games.
Emily is survived by her two daughters Victoria “Vicky” Salisbury and husband Charles of Hummelstown and Margaret “Peggy” Finch and husband Marty of Cary, North Carolina; three sons, William Shaw and partner Paul Silva of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; Stephen Shaw of Columbia, Maryland, and Gary Shaw and wife Dawn of Etters; 10 grandchildren, Stephen Salisbury and wife Heather, Gordon Salisbury and wife Amy, Shelby Salisbury, Madeline Silva, Owen Silva, Ryan Shaw, Ethan Shaw, Zachary Shaw, Kathryn “Katie” James, Andrew James; 5 great-grandchildren Johanna, Bianca, Lydia, Cillian, Piper; and her brother John W. Weidner and wife Celia of Pearl, Mississippi.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 8th at 4 pm at the main theatre at Stoneridge Village at Poplar Run, 440 E Lincoln Ave, Myerstown with Emily’s grandson Rev. Stephen Salisbury officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Private interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg. Rohland Funeral Home in Lebanon is entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Zion United Methodist Church 22 E. Main Ave Myerstown, PA 17067 or Stoneridge Village at Poplar Run.
