Peggy Jean Ryburn, 87 passed away on May 27, 2024 in Leander, Texas. She was born at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas on November 27, 1936 to Terrell McClintock and Priscilla Boatright McClintock.
Except for the two years she spent in Corpus Christi, Peggy lived her entire life in Austin, Texas and was very proud of this. Peggy attended Metz Elementary, Palm School, John T. Allen Junior High and Stephen F. Austin High school. Peggy had an undying love for Austin. She often enjoying taking walks up and down Congress Avenue and reminiscing of her younger years. She worked at Scarbroughs department store off Congress Avenue in the early 50’s in the gift wrapping department. She spent many years living in a house that was located where the Austin Convention Center now sits. Peggy loved to go dancing at Gil’s Club off South Congress, the Broken Spoke and the Sons of Herman.
Peggy went to work for Southwestern Bell on May 5, 1954. She was an LD Operator for 17 years and then went on to be a Plant Assigner for 14 more years. Peggy loved her time working at Southwestern Bell. She had so many great memories that she loved to share these memories with family and friends.
Peggy met Gerald D. Ryburn after being set up on a blind date by each of their mutual best friends. After three years of dating, they married at the old Bergstrom Air Base chapel in Austin, Texas. They would have celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary in June, 2024.
Peggy is preceded in death by her father Terrel McClintock, mother Priscilla Boatright Redinger, her sister Dorothy Nell Mueller, an infant baby sister, her aunt Millie McClintock, her granddaughter Randi Lynn Taylor and great grandchild Payton Lynn Taylor.
Survivors include: her cherished husband of 50 years Gerald D. Ryburn; son James Rush and wife Kerry Rush, son Dean Rush and wife Debra Rush, son Dale Rush, daughter Bobbie Jean Potts and husband Leslie Potts, daughter Jerre Ruth Barton and husband Paul Barton, Grandchildren: Travis Rush, Mary Rush, Brooke Mays and husband Johnny Mays, Bailey Potts, Dylan Barton and Harper Barton, Great Grandchildren: Leighton Mays and Palmer Mays. Her brothers: Terrell O'Dean McClintock Jr. and wife Sandy and Jim Walker and wife Janie. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Dean Rush, Dale Rush, Travis Rush, Leslie Potts, Paul Barton and Johnny Mays.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a graveside service 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander, Texas. There will be a reception following the graveside service for family and friends at the VFW Leander, Texas from 2-4pm.
In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family suggests donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
