Michael had a passion and love for life that knew no bounds. He cared deeply for his family and the world around him. He was spontaneous, courageous and will forever be remembered for his infectious smile and ‘famous laugh.’
Michael’s greatest love on earth was his wife Erin Havelka Flood, his true love for 33 years and wife for 28. In their teens, in 1992, they met at Leander High School and from that moment on were inseparable. Michael knew right away he had found the love of a lifetime. Shortly after meeting Erin, you could find Michael at her family home every Wednesday night for dinner - Rita quickly learned she needed to double her recipes.
The two were married in Summer 1996. Their love for each other only grew larger as their family grew. They welcomed their daughter Samantha in 2000, followed by their son Hunter in 2001, and always doted on a number of very lucky pets. Micheal loved his children endlessly and was extremely proud of the young adults they have become. Michael was so excited and proud of the life they are both creating for themselves by following their hopes and dreams. Most recently, he was overjoyed that Samantha had found her own lifetime love with Josh and is engaged to be married in 2026.
Michael was a devoted lifelong friend to many from both high school and college remaining extremely close with his very first friends in life – the cousins. He was the perfect blend of sincerity and hilarity, all mixed with a little mischief. You could always count on Michael to be leading the fun and living life to the fullest. There are countless stories of fun times led by Michael, most of which we are willing to tell.
Michael also loved to be outdoors surrounded by nature and admiring God’s beauty. He and Erin enjoyed countless hours together walking trails and strolling along beaches searching for the perfect seashells. He shared these joyful moments with us all through photos and stories, even getting the entire extended Flood family on a Signal chat to make it easy for everyone to share life’s moments. It was his love of nature and family that motivated he and Erin to build their dream home in Jonestown, Texas, to be close to both. Even when nature (or raccoons) wasn’t kind to them or their house, he always had a great story or photo to share. Michael especially loved sunrises and sunsets, the space where the lines blur between heaven and earth. Throughout their lives, he always encouraged Samantha and Hunter to “look how God painted the sky!”
When he wasn’t vacationing or enjoying his back deck, you could likely find Michael cheering on his Texas Aggies, golfing, fishing, spending time with his large extended family, being silly with his nieces & nephews, working out with Camp Gladiator, relishing in anything Star Wars, thinking up his next elaborate costume, or hard at work at Ultra Clean Technology (UCT), where he was currently serving as their Global Director of Engineering. Michael had a brilliant analytical mind, which never stopped working. He enjoyed coaching and mentoring and focused on sharing his knowledge with the next generation.
Born June 17, 1975, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Tom and Lillian Flood, Michael was the youngest of seven siblings and the only boy. However, Michael was always quick to point out that he “wasn’t an Okie” and that “he didn’t actually have six sisters, he had seven mothers.”
Michael attended schools in Nacogdoches, Waco, DeSoto, and Leander. He played soccer as a young child and was a member of the Football and Track teams at DeSoto Jr High, DeSoto High School and Leander High School. Michael graduated in 1993 from Leader High School and married Erin at Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Texas, on August 10, 1996. Michael attended Texas A&M University and received a Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering Technology in May 1999. Following college, Michael worked as a Production Manager for LL Sams Inc in Cameron, Texas, before joining Ultra Clean Technology (UCT). Michael progressively advanced through roles of increasing responsibility over his 25-year career at UCT. Although he was the youngest of all his siblings, it did not go unnoticed by them that he was the first to climb the ranks of the corporate world.
Michael’s approach to leadership was grounded in trust, honesty, and respect. In late October, a new FY2025 Section Leadership team was established for the Central Texas Section of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). After a call for volunteers, Michael immediately raised his hand to help and was serving as Vice Chair.
