Mike graduated from Edison High School in New Jersey, attended North Iowa Area Community College, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering from Central Missouri State University, while working at Bendix (Atomic Energy Commission) in Kansas City, Missouri. Mike worked as a sales engineer and training engineer for several companies throughout his career including Texas Instruments, Tektronix, Fluke, Hewlett Packard, Tokyo Electron, Applied Materials, and Adjunct Professor at ACC.
Mike met Kathy (Kelly) Deeny while attending NIACC in Mason City and they were married in June of 1968. After several moves from Belton, Missouri and Houston, Texas, they finally settled in Austin on Spicewood Parkway and raised their 2 children over the course of 38 years. To enjoy a quieter lifestyle, they moved to their present home in Leander, Texas 7 years ago. Mike has said many times that he “should have listened to Kathy” and “moved to Leander before they did.”
Mike will always be remembered for his enduring smile, quick wit, sense of humor, love of family and long-lasting friendships. He loved skiing in Colorado, sailing, new cars and trucks. He always had plenty of knowledge to share when it came to home improvement, garage tools, guns, coins and cars. If anyone needed a tool, they knew Mike would have it. Several times a week he would meet many of his “buddies” for breakfast or lunch. He will be admired for his strength, courage and positive attitude through the many years of heart and cancer illnesses.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, 5 of his brothers and sisters-Marilyn Packard, Joyce Vye, Hugh John (Jack)Deeny, Charles (Chuck) and David Deeny.
Mike is survived by his wife Kathy (Kelly) Deeny of 55 years of love and marriage, his sister Jeanette Sewald from Glendo, Wyoming, his son, Mark Deeny, daughter in-law Virginia, grandsons Evan Deeny, Ryan Deeny, daughter Lori Deeny, and his beloved dog, Maggie. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends & neighbors.
Mike’s final resting place is Bagdad Cemetery, Leander, Texas. He will be joining his mother Sabina, sister Marilyn, brother Chuck, and brother David.
