Melvin "Doug" Douglas Nelson

Melvin Douglas “Doug” Nelson was born September 8, 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he grew up. He was the middle child of 6 brothers and sisters: Kathy, Frankie, Hooty, Cheryl, Wayne and Jimmy. He and his brothers and sisters had a fun and crazy life growing up together. Doug met the love of his life when he was 12 and immediately said, “I’m going to marry that girl.” Five years later he and Delra Jean Rose were married June 17, 1970. They started their family by adopting Heather and then two years later gave birth to Justin. Doug was a hardworking, loving husband and dad. He filled his home with laughter and jokes and many childhood memories for his kids and grandkids. He loved to take his family to the lake to go fishing and camping.

He is the loving son of Carles Nelson and Rosella Davis. He passed from this life March 30, 2022 in Leander, Texas at the age of 69. Doug had lived in Leander since 1977. He loved working on cars, being outside and spending time with his family. He owned and operated Nelson Truck and Auto for 30 years. There he grew many loyal customers and developed friendships over time before closing. He continued his love of cars though. Every day that he could, he was out back working on something. He lived for it. That’s of course unless one of his grandchildren Landon, Annabelle, Emma, or Jaxson were there. They were the greatest joy of his later years in life.

Doug leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Rosella Davis; his wife of 51 years, Delra Nelson; his children, Justin Nelson and Heather Contreras; their Spouses; Katy Nelson & Sonny Contreras, grandchildren, Landon, Emma, Jaxson and Annabelle; and many others. He will forever be missed.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, April 8, 2022 beginning at 4pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 1200 S Bagdad Road, Leander, Texas 78641
